Recording Fees

The following fees pertain to Recording. A Deed/Mortgage Fee Calculator has been provided to assist in estimating fees.

Most fees may be paid by cash, check (cashier’s or personal), money order, or with a credit card. Credit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. The only debit cards which will be accepted are those with the Visa or MasterCard logo. The financial service provider charges a nominal, non-refundable fee for each credit card transaction.

NOTE: We do not accept cashier’s checks dated more than two (2) months from the issue date.

Check and money order payments to the Clerk’s Office should be made payable to “Gary J. Cooney, Clerk of Court & Comptroller.”

Real Estate Conveyance Fees:

Deed Documentary Stamps:

Rate 70 cents per $100 of consideration or fraction thereof on a deed or other instrument conveying an interest in real estate. A minimum of 70 cents of documentary stamps must be affixed to deeds which have a consideration of $100 or less.
Mortgage Documentary Stamps:

Rate 35 cents per $100 or fraction thereof on promise to pay.
Intangible Tax:

Rate 2 mills (.002) per $1 on a promise to pay. A non-recurring tax of 2 mills (.002) on the dollar of the just valuation of all notes, bonds, and other obligations for payment of money, which are secured by mortgage, deed of trust, or other lien upon real property situated in the state.
