Recording Notification Service (Fraud Alerts)

According to the FBI, property and mortgage fraud is one of the fastest growing white-collar crimes. Scammers file fraudulent deeds, making it appear as if they own the property. These scammers then trick people into giving them money to rent or buy those homes.

This type of fraud can go undetected if the property owner does not periodically check the Official Records. Although checking does not prevent the actual fraudulent activity from occurring, a property owner who checks periodically may find the fraud before any irreparable damage is done.

In order to relieve the property owner’s burden of checking periodically, the Lake County Clerk’s Office offers residents a FREE Recording Notification Service via automated emails. Residents can monitor multiple different names per registered email address. When a document with an identity that is being monitored is recorded in the Official Records of Lake County, an email will automatically be sent to the provided email address.
