Vulnerable Adults

The Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller’s Office processes petitions for the protection of vulnerable adults filed in Circuit Court.

A vulnerable adult is someone who is 18 years of age or older whose ability to perform the normal activities of daily living, or to provide for his or her own care or protection, is impaired due to mental, emotional, sensory, long-term physical or developmental disability or dysfunction, or brain damage, or the infirmities of aging.

Filing a Petition

A petition can be filed by or on behalf of a vulnerable adult if they are being exploited, or in imminent danger of being exploited, as defined in Section 825.101(6), Florida Statues.

Submission of Documents

The Florida Rules of General Practice and Judicial Administration require that petitions, pleadings, and documents be filed electronically except in certain circumstances. Self-represented litigants (pro se) may file petitions or other pleadings or documents electronically; however, they are not required to do so.

If you choose to file your pleadings or other documents electronically, you must do so in accordance with Florida Rule of General Practice and Judicial Administration 2.525.
