An exterior of the Lake County Courthouse building.TAVARES — The Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller was recently recognized by the Florida Court Clerks and Comptrollers (FCCC) association for its adherence to best practices.

The annual Best Practices Excellence Program was established in 2020. The program evaluates Clerks’ performance against certain chosen best practices each year. In 2025, the program evaluated and recognized Clerks’ professional standards in the following areas:

  • Capital Asset Management
  • Compliance Services
  • Eviction
  • Evidence Storage and Destruction
  • Exploitation of Vulnerable Adult Injunction
  • GAAP Financial Reporting
  • Grants Administration
  • Marriage License
  • Post-Issuance Policies and Procedures
  • Wireless Communications Device Citation

The Lake County Clerk’s Office has received the award each year since its inception, and was one of 33 Clerks and Comptrollers across the state to receive recognition in all of the categories for each of the last five years.

“Our office has a broad range of duties that we perform as part of our statutory responsibilities, as well as tasks that enhance our service to our customers,” said Gary Cooney, Clerk & Comptroller. “I am proud of our employees’ commitment to following these best practices consistently and professionally, resulting in this recognition.”
