County Criminal (Misdemeanor)The County Criminal Section performs services related to misdemeanor cases. An arrest on a misdemeanor offense typically involves the defendant being booked into the county jail. Most misdemeanor offenses are bondable according to the bail bond schedule. The judge usually sees individuals arrested on misdemeanors within 24 hours of the arrest. At first appearance, bond can be set, and the court determines whether the defendant is found to be indigent (unable to pay for counsel), and whether a Public Defender will be appointed. However, in some instances, a notice to appear may be issued for a misdemeanor. A notice to appear means that the defendant promises to appear for court by signing the notice to appear form. The arresting officer then releases the defendant on their own recognizance. |
