Criminal Traffic CitationsIf you are charged with a criminal traffic offense, you must appear in court at the time and date indicated on your citation or page three of your arrest paperwork, unless you receive a notice changing this date and time. Criminal charges carry penalties that may include fines and court costs, probation, and the possibility of a jail term. Most criminal traffic offenses are bondable offenses, and bond will normally be set according to the bail schedule. A duty judge usually sees individuals arrested on criminal traffic charges within twenty-four hours of their arrest. At first appearance, bail is set, and the court determines whether the accused can pay for counsel. The Public Defender will be appointed if the defendant is found to be indigent (unable to pay for counsel). Failure to appear at the date and time indicated on your notice or citation may result in a warrant being issued for your arrest and your driver license being suspended. |
