SCAM ALERT: Florida Department of Revenue Tax Refund 

TAVARES, FL — The Florida Department of Revenue (DOR) is warning residents about a recent scam that sends text messages or emails regarding tax refunds. These messages:

• Ask the recipient to click a link or provide banking information
• Use international phone numbers
• Refer to refunds and laws that do not apply or exist
• Pressure the recipient with deadlines

The DOR has posted a Current Topic on its website and is warning recipients not to reply to the message or click on any links. If you receive one of these messages, you are reminded of the following advice:

• The DOR does not send text messages about tax refunds
• Do not reply or click links
• You can report scams to the Federal Trade Commission, the Florida Office of the Attorney General, or the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
• If you have been a victim of this or any other scam, contact your financial institution and your local sheriff’s office
